God's Strong Love

Thou hast led in thy steadfast love the people whom thou hast redeemed, thou hast guided them by thy strength to thy holy abode. (Exodus 15:13)

Ex. 15:1-14, 16, 17; Ps. 23; Deut 8:2; Isa. 35:10; Rev. 7:11, 12 and 15:3.

What Is God Saying?

This verse is part of the Song of Moses, which he wrote upon God’s victory over the Egyptians, who enslaved his people for so many years. Israel saw the triumph of God (Ex. 14:30, 31). Surely their God was alive and in control. They were a people redeemed. His was a strong love. The Song of Moses is a message we can still hear, a song we can still sing. ‘It is God's love that has redeemed us. It is his strength that will prevail until we are where he wants us to be.’

The redeemed of the Lord echo that song now, and when the dawn of eternity comes, it will be the redeemed who sing of God, the Song of Moses, servant of God, and the song of the Lamb (Rev. 15:3-4). The triumph belongs to the King of the Ages. The redeemed will sing of God's triumph in Christ in the most joyous music of Heaven. It begins with, but it doesn't end with Moses.

How Does This Apply To Us?

God closes the door on the enemy, the things that enslaved us, the failures, the trivialities that once consumed our lives, and the goals that we once thought so important. We are redeemed, and in his strong love, he leads us to glory. The future is bright. The past is dead. The present is meaningful.

Pray With Me

Lord, I want to be responsive to this remarkable fact: along with all the redeemed, you lead and guide me by your love and strength. Thank you for love that is strong and for strength that is love. Show me what can be mine when I let you lead the way. When I grow weary in well-doing, let your strong love point me in the way that is truth and life. When material-mindedness has put out the flame of spiritual zeal, flood my soul with the glory and the joy of your love. Help me find my way through the bewildering maze of lesser options into fulfilling and meaningful experiences of life in you.

Thank you, Lord, for the strength that guides. My willful nature will sometimes pull away from your restraining grace. Let your strength guide me. Let me feel the power of your love, compelling me to return to the path of life. If I ever say I want to be free from you, let your loving strength hold me close until I see that it is foolish to be free from you, when I can be so abundantly free in you. Such is the leading of your love.

In the name of Jesus, whose strong love will lead me all the way home. Amen.
