Are We Remembering God?
The desire of my soul is the remembrance of thee. (Isaiah 26:8, KJV)
Isa. 26:1-9; Ps. 63:6; Jonah 2:7; Zech 10:7
What Is God Saying?
God wants to be remembered and we need to remember God to go back to our roots, to find peace, and to feel the rock beneath our feet, even in the swirling waters around us. “Thou dost keep them in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on thee because they trust in thee. Trust in the Lord forever for the Lord God is an everlasting rock." (Isa. 26:3)
How Does This Apply To Us?
When are we most likely not to remember God? Is it not when we feel we are making it on our own? When things are going our way? When there is plenty of money? Yet, putting our whole trust in this kind of material satisfaction is the very thing that leads to spiritual emptiness. Wealth in itself cannot satisfy the hunger of our soul.
Having things around us is not the thing that counts. What matters is remembering God. Remembering that God has made us for Himself and there is no rest, as Augustine says, until we rest in Him. Remembering God is the key to satisfaction. Remembering God is the secret of a holy life. Remembering God is our deep desire.
Let us remember God and live.
Pray With Me
Lord, there is the perfect mingling of love and light in You. All my hope is in Your steadfast love. All my future glows with the light of Your perfect plan. Remembering You is my soul's desire because it is the only way life makes sense. It lifts me from despair and fills my soul with hope.
At the beginning of this day, I desire, I choose to remember You.
Let Your perfect love and light filter down to the beginnings of my hope and longing. Then, eternal Father, I shall find that all my soul's desire is always to the remembrance of You.
In Christ. Amen.
Moving On In The Life Of Prayer
Let us come to prayer with this thought: my soul's desire is the remembrance of God. Then, we will find joy in remembering others in prayer and supporting them in their needs.
